HYDERABAD: A city man whose marriage is to be solemnised on Friday is in the custody of Dubai police since November 14 and the family, which has no clue on the reasons behind

Syed Irfan’s arrest

, has urged the government to help him return.

All that they heard was from Irfan’s friend Shafi in Dubai, who called up the family members on Wednesday evening and told them that the immigration authorities had stopped Irfan at the airport when he was about to board a flight to Hyderabad on November 14 over an ‘economic offence.’

Irfan’s father Syed Jehangir told TOI that they are worried about his safety. “His marriage is fixed on November 22 and all arrangements have been made,” Jehangir said. He said Shafi had also told them that Dubai police were making enquiries and took him to Abu Dhabi for further investigation. Irfan, 28, had gone to Dubai in May on a visit visa and landed a job in Al Rawabi Dairy firm.

Consulate General of India (CGI), Dubai, which responded to MBT leader Amjed Ullah Khan’s pleas to look into the case, said: “We understand there is a case against Irfan in Abu Dhabi.” But, it failed to give any further details.

Jehangir said his son has not committed any offence and suspects his son’s telephone number is the culprit.“There seems to be some confusion. It is because of his phone number they seem to think that he is involved in some offence. We do not know what is happening in Dubai,” he said.

He also said they have not spoken to Irfan since November 14. “Shafi is keeping us posted about the developments,” Jehangir said and hoped that the issue would be resolved so that Irfan can return in time for his wedding.

Earlier, Amjed Ullah Khan stepped in after the family sought help and brought the matter to the notice of CGI.
