HYDERABAD: With the Central Power Distribution Company of AP reintroducing two-hour power cuts starting June 14, Thursday, residents fear that the acute water crisis that the city was reeling under till about ten days ago. A good part of residential and commercial complexes in Hyderabad depend on private tankers given the poor supply from the city’s water board.

Operators of private water tankers that have a capacity ranging from 5,000 to 20,000 litres, thrive on the bore wells they have dug up in the city outskirts. Even the tankers supplied by the water board run dry each time power cuts are imposed. “During the two-hour power cuts, we are unable to pump the water into the tankers. Last time the waiting list of consumers was in hundreds. We could meet the demand over the last few days since the power situation improving but starting today, there is a problem again,” said Imran Khan, secretary, state motor transport operator association.
