City bikers return to grand reception after ‘Freedom Ride’

On the eve of India’s 71st Independence Day, we had told you about the Wanderers, a motley crew of Hyderabadi bikers who organised a seven-day expedition titled “Freedom Ride” to the ancestral home of former President APJ Abdul Kalam on August 15. On Thursday, the eight ‘patriots on two wheels’ returned to town after covering a distance of 2,800 km and were accorded a grand reception by fellow bikers in the city.

The bike enthusiasts, who have been undertaking rallies criss-crossing the nation to instill the spirit of patriotism among the youth around I-Day, were thrilled to share their experience after the ride. “We visited the ancestral home of APJ Abdul Kalam in

Rameswaram

to attend the flag hoisting ceremony by his elder brother,

Mohammed Muthu Meera Lebbai Maraikayar

. We also interacted with his grand-nephew, Sheikh Salim, and
visited the recently inaugurated

at

, his hometown,” said Goda Pavan, a biker.

The bikers added that they were touched by the love they received from everyone they met during their ride. “We received a grand reception in Chennai where local bikers
escorted us to a felicitation ceremony of young officers at the Army officers training academy,” said Rahul Saxena, a member of the group.
