hyderabad: hardly three weeks into the new year, the citizens are putting away their winter clothing and warm bedding. the city is already feeling the summer heat. according to meteorological department director c v v bhadram, the rise in minimum temperature in the city now is about five degree celsius above normal. but adding to the discomfort were the moisture laden winds coming in from the south easterly direction.

bhadram, however, said the rise in temperature and variation were normal. while the maximum temperatures in january last year were — on 19th - 29.9 degree celsius, on 20th - 30.4 degree c, on 21st - 29.2 degree c, on 22nd - 29.6 degree c and on 23rd - 31.5 degree c, this year they stood at — on 19th - 29.3 degree celsius, on 20th 31.9 degree celsius, on 21st - 29.3 degree celsius and on 22nd - 32.6 degree celsius. citizens' against pollution president k purshottam reddy said one of the reasons for the rise in temperature could be large-scale deforestation, urbanisation and increase in air-pollution.
