Chari is Telangana Assembly Speaker

HYDERABAD: Sirikonda Madhusudanachari on Tuesday was unanimously elected the first Speaker of Telangana assembly. Pro-tem Speaker K Jana Reddy announced his unanimous election as the TRS legislator from Bhoopalapalli was the only nominee for the post.
After taking charge, Madhusudana Chari notified the election of the Deputy Speaker. He said nominations from candidates will be accepted on Wednesday between 10.30 am and 5 pm for the election to be held on Thursday.

Medak legislator Padma Devender Reddy is tipped to be the TRS nominee and also expected to win easily as the ruling party has the necessary majority. While the ruling party wants the Deputy Speaker to be elected unopposed, some leaders from the opposition parties are arguing that the post must be given to one of their members. Sources said the issue will be settled at a meeting of the business advisory committee (BAC) likely to be held on Wednesday.
"So far, TRS has not approached us on the issue of election of the Deputy Speaker. We supported them on the Speaker's election as there was a consensus. It all depends on what stand the ruling party will take,'' said a senior Congress leader.
The newly elected Speaker announced that Governor ESL Narasimhan will address a joint session of the Assembly and council on Wednesday at 11 am. Following the Governor's address, floor leaders of all parties are likely to discuss the agenda for House proceedings in the BAC."We will raise the issues of farm loan waiver and the welfare of the families of Telangana martyrs. We will demand the government comes clear on this," said Congress leader D K Aruna.
Earlier in the day, when the Assembly convened at 11 am, the pro-tem Speaker called MIM legislators Akbaruddin Owaisi and Mumtaz Ahmad Khan to take oath as members of the House since they were not present during the ceremony on Monday.
