HYDERABAD: The Centre would monitor the tribal development programmes in all the states in the backdrop of allegations about misappropriation of funds, according to Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram.
Talking to reporters on Saturday, the minister said that the Centre had been according top priority to tribal affairs. Further, it would bifurcate the welfare department to streamline the welfare programmes to benefit both SC and STs.
Oram said that the Centre had granted six out of 100 tribal residential schools for the State and released an amount of Rs 10.56 crore grant for maintenance and construction of schools.
For improving literacy among ST women in districts, which have less than 10 per cent female literacy, the Centre also released grant for opening and maintenance of educational complexes, he said.
The minister said that there were 41 educational complexes known as Gurukulams for girls studying from class one to five with a class wise strength of 30. The Centre had also released money for the construction of seven 21 tribal girls hostels and seven tribal welfare girls hostel.
