Centre to invest Rs 48k cr in T’s rail infra: Railways minister
Hyderabad: Telangana has been sanctioned a railway budget allocation of Rs 5,454 crore for 2026–27, a marginal increase of Rs 118 crore over the Rs 5,336 crore provided in 2024–25.Announcing the figures, Union minister for railways Ashwini Vaishnaw said the centre has lined up railway investments worth nearly Rs 47,984 crore for various development initiatives across Telangana. He underscored the rise in funding by pointing out that the average annual railway outlay for the undivided Andhra Pradesh between 2009 and 2014 was just Rs 886 crore.
"The allocation to Telangana has seen nearly a six-fold increase compared to the average spending during 2009–14 for the combined state," he said. However, Andhra Pradesh continues to receive significantly higher support. The neighbouring state has been allocated Rs 10,134 crore for 2026–27, with total railway investments pegged at around Rs 92,000 crore, nearly double the financial commitment announced for Telangana.Officials said the Rs 48,000-crore investment plan in Telangana will focus on capacity expansion, passenger amenities, freight corridor strengthening, station modernisation, new railway lines, workshop upgrades, and major works at Kazipet junction, a key rail hub.Meanwhile, redevelopment of 40 railway stations in Telangana under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is progressing at a brisk pace, with completion targeted by 2027, officials said.RRTS to cut travel time between Hyd & WarangalTravel between Hyderabad and Warangal could soon take less than an hour, with the centre proposing a Namo Bharat Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor between the two cities. The proposal was flagged in the Economic Survey 2025–26.Designed for speeds of 160–180 kmph, the RRTS aims to significantly reduce travel time on the busy corridor. Warangal, already a key railway gateway to southern India, is expected to see stronger integration with Hyderabad through the high-speed link, boosting regional connectivity and daily commuting.
