hyderabad: closed circuit television (cctv) cameras will be installed at all the urban police stations in ranga reddy district. the cameras have already been installed in sanathnagar, balanagar, chandanagar, kukatpally, rajendranagar, malkajgiri, nacharam and other police stations. according to ranga reddy district superintendent of police (sp) m v ramachandra raju, cctv cameras will be fixed in the prison cells of all the police stations in about a month.

in most of the police stations, both in ranga reddy district and the city, the sentries do not guard the prison cells. "this makes it difficult for the sentry to keep a watch on the accused. but with cctv it is possible and convenient," ramachandra raju said. the city police had also installed a cctv at afzalgunj police station after an undertrial prisoner hanged himself in the lock-up.
