HYDERABAD:
Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) sleuths on Thursday raided properties of an
income tax officer
(ITO) from Hyderabad and unearthed Rs 2.06 crore worth assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. Interestingly, the officer even produced a Telugu film starring his younger son.
After gathering details about the corrupt practices of
Boddu Venkateswara Rao
alias B V Rao, ITO, Range-3, Kondapur, a team of CBI sleuths conducted simultaneous searches on the properties and offices of Rao at KPHB, Kondapur and Basheerbagh on Thursday .
During the searches, the CBI officials found that Rao, whose income and other receipts from April 1, 2010 to October 31, 2016, was Rs 97.02 lakh, had spent Rs 28.63 lakh during the same period. The CBI team found that the value of his assets was `2.74 crore and, after deduction of his savings from income, he had `2.06 crore as disproportionate assets. The CBI also found that Rao produced a Telugu movie, `I am In Love' with his second son as hero, through a film production company
Saptavarna Creations
, owned by his first son. “Rao's first son did not have any income to produce the film. Rao produced the film using his ill-gotten money,“ a CBI official said. CBI booked Rao under sections 13(2) rw 13 (1)(c) of the PC Act 1988 on Thursday. The accused has not been arrested.
