HYDERABAD: It was the recognition of a sticker of a stolen car by the driver from whom it was hijacked that led to the Cyberabad police busting a three-member gang of robbers on Thursday night. In the shootout that took place between the gang members and the cops, one of them – Ravi, got injured while his accomplices Sameer and Raju managed to give the police the slip.
Madhapur police said Ravi informed them that all the three belong to Moosapet. “In the last few days, the three accused had stolen four cars in Madhapur limits. Using the stolen vehicles , they had been committing other offences ,” deputy commissioner of police (Madhapur) Manish Kumar Sinha said.
The Indica (AP 28 AV 0239) that led to the discovery of the gang, belongs to one Suresh and was hired by Anil Patil, son of Karnataka MLA Basavaraj Patil. On Wednesday, Anil Patil visited Prithvi Solutions near Ayyapa Society in Madhapur on official work in the Indica car. While Anil was inside the company’s office, the car driver Yadagiri parked the vehicle on the road.
At that time, the three-member robber gang turned up and after pointing a country-made pistol at Yadagiri, carjacked the vehicle and made him to drive it to Dundigal where they dumped him and proceeded further. Yadagiri then informed the car owner Suresh, a resident of Medak district who in turn lodged a complaint with the police.
On Thursday, when a team of Cyberabad police along with Yadagiri was on the look out for the accused, the driver noticed the Indica car parked outside Balaji Wines in Kondapur. Though the number plate of the vehicle was changed, Yadagiri could recognize the vehicle with the help of the red sticker that was pasted on it. On the hunch that the robbers were inside the Indica, the cops surrounded the vehicle but were fired upon from the inside. In the shootout that resulted, Ravi sustained grievous injuries while the other two fled. Ravi is presently undergoing treatment in a private hospital.
