On November 26, Srinivas came to the city along with Balaji from Visakhapatnam to purchase distribution rights of a film.
Srinivas later asked Balaji to drop his friend Narasimha Rao at Srinagar Colony, but he forgot to take the cash bag containing Rs 9 lakh kept inside the car.
After dropping Narasimha Rao at Srinagar Colony, Balaji abandoned the vehicle near Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan School at Jubilee Hills and escaped with the cash.
The DCP said Balaji had earlier stolen Rs 4 lakh from his former employer U Srinivas Rao of Kandukoor and Rs 50,000 from another employer Mohammed Nazeer of Kothur in Mahbubnagar district.
But cases were not booked against him, he said.
