Businessman arrested for selling e-cigarettes

HYDERABAD: Taskforce police arrested a businessman from Abids and seized 35

electronic cigarettes

along with other incriminating evidence. Acting on specific information, the Central Zone team of Taskforce raided a shop named Gulnar’s Perfumes at Mozamjahi Market on Saturday night.


During the raid, police found that shop owner Syed Noor Arif Ali was resorting to illegal sale and marketing of banned electronic cigarettes, containing propylene, glycol, glycerine, water,

nicotine

and artificial flavours. “There was no manufacturing date on the e-cigarettes . We have seized 35 banned e-cigarettes and 68 bottles of flavoured nicotine liquid and a mobile phone,” Taskforce DCP P Radha Kishan Rao said.

During the investigation, police found out that Arif Ali has been running this shop for the past few years. The accused along with the seized material was handed over to Abids police for further investigation. A case has been registered against Arif Ali under Section 20(2) of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA). The accused will be produced before the court for judicial remand.
