Run over, bludgeoned, throat slit: Hyderabad lawyer murdered over land; brother ‘paid’ killers in plots and cash
Hyderabad: Hours after the murder of 34-year-old woman advocate G Swapna Kumari at Kethyreddypally near Moinabad, police have arrested four persons, including her elder brother G Raju, for their alleged role in the murder case.
Disputes over sharing four-acre ancestral agricultural land in Kethyreddypally was the motive behind the murder, police said.
The main accused, Raju, allegedly offered half an acre each to two of the co-accused for aiding him in eliminating his sister.
Police said they were verifying whether the two associates had any role in two road accident-cum-attempt to murder complaints lodged by the lawyer earlier, in which she accused her brother of being behind those offences.
G Raju, his close associate V Veeresh, and the latter's friends E Sandeep and K Shiva Lingam from Moinabad, were arrested by police on Wednesday night for the murder of Swapna earlier during the day.
Deputy commissioner of police (DCP), Chevella, Yogesh Gautam said a dispute over sharing four acre ancestral land in Kethyreddypally was the motive behind the murder. The market value of the land in the area was between 2 crore and 3 crore.
Around 10 am, when Swapna went to the land to survey it along with her mother Venkatamma and a surveyor, Raju and three other accused reached there in an Innova and a scooter. "Raju came in an innova and rammed into his sister, who was standing by the road. As she fell next to the road, Raju attacked her with a stone. Veeresh, who reached the location with the other two accused on a two-wheeler, attacked her with a sickle," slitting her throat," the DCP said.
After the attack, the accused fled in the two vehicles. The lawyer was declared brought dead at a hospital in Moinabad. Police seized the stone and the sickle used in the murder. Veeresh and Shiva purchased the sickle at a shop in Moinabad on Wednesday morning, clearly indicating pre-meditation, the DCP added.
During interrogation, Shiva confessed that he was promised 10,000 by the other accused for aiding them in the murder. "Sandeep confessed that Raju had promised to give half acre each to him and Veeresh for helping him in eliminating Swapna," an investigator said.
Prior to her death, Swapna had filed two seperate road accident complaints with Chevella and Moinabad police in Nov 2025 and Jan 2026 in which unknown accused rammed into her two-wheeler with a car and a bulldozer respectively. During the investigation, she alleged that her brother could be behind both incidents.
"During the investigation in the two cases so far, Raju's involvement was not found. Now, we will verify if Veeresh and Sandeep, who played a key role in Swapna's murder, were in anyway linked to the two accidents," a senior police officer said.
