: Forest officials on Thursday arrested two persons in connection with the killing of a

blackbuck

for its meat in Rampur village. The officials took the accused into custody while they were cooking the meat of the poached animal. Blackbucks are protected species under Wildlife Protection Act of 1972.


A search operation was launched after Narayanpet forest officials received information that a blackbuck was killed by unidentified persons on Tuesday night. The forest officials were also informed that the meat was being distributed to villagers. “Our team caught two persons who cooked the meat on Wednesday. Forest officials found the meat in small quantities. We are yet to find out if more people are involved,” said G Narayana Rao,

The accused said they were given the meat by three other people who killed the blackbuck. The three others are yet to be taken into custody.
