HYDERABAD: Amid ongoing controversy over his remarks against a community, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday suspended its Telangana MLA Raja Singh.

The BJP has served a show cause notice to Singh and has asked him to submit his reply within 10 days to avoid expulsion from the party.


The suspension letter signed by Om Pathak, member of the party's central disciplinary committee, says Singh's statement have been found contrary to the party's position.

"You have expressed views contrary to the party's position on various matters, which is in clear violation of Rule XXV 10 (a) of constitution of the Bharatiya Janata Party. I have been directed to convey to you that pending further inquiry, you are suspended from the party and from your responsibilities/assignments if any, with immediate effect," the letter said.

Earlier today, Hyderabad Police arrested the BJP MLA for his derogatory remarks. A criminal case was registered against the MLA after continuous protests at Dabeerpura police station and also at Hyderabad CP office.

Singh allegedly made an objectionable video in reaction to the recent show by stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui in Hyderabad.

In the video, he spoke against members of a community besides using foul language against Munawar, accusing him of making blasphemous comedy in the past.

'Willing to die for Sanatana Dharma'
Telangana BJP MLA Raja Singh on Tuesday said that he was willing to die to protect the Sanatana Dharma. He said he would upload another video countering comedian Munawar Faruqui's remarks on Lord Ram in a show.


The social media platform removed the comic video uploaded by Raja Singh after police requested it.

Raja Singh questioned how the police could protect a comedian who made derogatory remarks about Hindu gods and still allow his show.
