HYDERABAD: BJP corporators on Wednesday claimed that animal birth control measures by Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation haven't been fruitful in controlling stray dog menace in the city.

Addressing a press meet at BJP office, GHMC deputy floor leader Radha Reddy said the civic body's failure in preventing roadside dumping of garbage contributed to the dog menace.

"Dogs which feed on garbage fall sick and tend to become aggressive. GHMC should designate feeding spots for stray dogs and ensure that dumping of garbage in open areas is controlled," Radha Reddy said. Champapet corporator Vanga Madhusudhan Reddy criticized mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi for not taking responsibility for the death of four-year-old on Sunday last.

"The GHMC allocates 50 crore to veterinary wing. The fund gets exhausted through drives. As a result, complaints go unattended," Madhusudhan Reddy claimed. Later, the corporators met the mayor and submitted a representation, seeking a meeting in taking measures on the issue. tnn
