HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Mahila Congress president has objected to her counterparts in the BJP for burning an effigy of Congress president Sonia Gandhi in the city on Monday and advised the BJP to concentrate on issues other than the Congress president’s nationality.
“The Supreme Court has held that Sonia is an Indian and there is no scope for any further arguments on the subject,’’Mahila Congress president J Geeta Reddy told reporters on Tuesday.
BJP women wing members had burnt an effigy of Sonia on Monday protesting against a similar treatment meted out to state BJP president N Indrasena Reddy by Mahila Congress leaders.
Geeta Reddy said turning ire on Sonia for the Congress party’s comments on Indrasena Reddy reflected the ‘political bankruptcy’ of the BJP leaders.
“Indrasena Reddy is a state-level and that local BJP leaders should have limited their role to state politics,’’ she pointed out.
The Mahila Congress president said that under Sonia Gandh’s leadership, the Congress party gained strength from three states to 16 states.
