Assistant engineer in ACB trap

ONGOLE: ACB team nabbed an assistant engineer in Prakasam district while he was accepting bribe from a contractor at Singarayakonda on Saturday. According to ACBDSP (Nellore) J BhaskaraRao, panchayatraj AE Ch Kumar demanded Rs 70,000 from local contractor S Sridhar for clearing his pending bill of Rs10lakh. Sridhar completed a road work in Singarayakonda region and had been roaming around the PR office to get his dues cleared.
Sridhar requested the AE to reduce the bribe amount as he had already incurred loss in the work. As the AE refused to slash the bribe demand, the contractor approached ACB officials in Nellore. Subsequently, he resumed negotiation with the AE and struck a deal for Rs.55,000. The ACB team laid the trap and caught Kumar in his office.
Bhaskara Rao said the arrested official would be produced in Nellore court.
