APFSL identifies 10 victims of Gauthami mishap

After completing DNA tests, the AP Forensic Science Laboratory experts have established the identity of 10 passengers, who were charred to death in the Gauthami Express fire on August 1 near Kesamudram.

HYDERABAD: After completing DNA tests,the AP Forensic Science Laboratory (APFSL) experts have established the identityof 10 passengers, who were charred to death in the Gauthami Express fire onAugust 1 near Kesamudram in Warangal district. The FSL had collected the bloodsamples of the blood relatives of the victims two months ago and conducted DNAtests on the charred remains of the passengers.The victimsidentified are: Harishankar (berth No. 3), Roshini (B No 8), S Trinatha Rao (BNo 33), D Ramulamma (B No 34), K V K Mohan Rao (B No 41), M Bala (B No 4), BKanthammma (B No 52), V S Satyasai Baba (B No 59), N S Raju (B No 66) and GMadhusudhan Rao (un-reserved).The railway authorities asked thefamilies of the victims to contact the tahsildar of Kesamudram for obtainingdeath certificates to collect the remains of the victims at MGM Hospital,Warangal. They should reach Kesamadram by November 21 to collect the remains,said SP (railways), Secunderabad, A Ravi Chandra.According toofficials, 27 perished in the fire. The bodies of six passengers were identifiedand handed over to the families the same day. Later, two bodies were identifiedby the relatives at the MGM Hospital. APFSL had collected theremains of a total of 19 passengers from S-10 coach. While theidentity of 10 victims has been confirmed now, the APFSL experts said that theidentity of another two would be confirmed in two days. To confirm the identityof seven more victims, the DNA tests would be conducted by the month end, RaviChandra said.
