Aparesh Kumar Singh to be new chief justice of Telangana high court

Hyderabad: Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh will be the new Chief Justice of Telangana high court. The Centre on Monday notified his transfer from Tripura high court to Telangana high court. His parent high court is Jharkhand high court.

Though the Supreme Court collegium, headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) BR Gavai recommended his transfer from Tripura HC on May 26, the central govt took 48 days to notify the same. Upon obtaining the seal of approval from President Droupadi Murmu, the Union ministry of law and justice appointed Aparesh Kumar Singh as the chief justice of Telangana high court.

Born on July 7, 1965, he studied at the Delhi university and obtained BA Honours and LLB degree, got enrolled and started practice at Patna high court in 1990. Later, he moved to Jharkhand high court in 2001 and practiced there as an advocate till his elevation as judge of the high court there in Jan 2012. He was appointed executive chairman of Jharkhand State Legal Services Authority in April, 2021. He was appointed acting chief justice of the high court of Jharkhand between Dec 20, 2022 and Feb 19, 2023. He was elevated as chief justice of the high court of Tripura on April 17, 2023.

Acting Chief Justice Sujay Paul of Telangana high court has been transferred to Calcutta high court. The central govt has notified his transfer also along with several transfers and elevations of judges on Monday. Justice Devanand of AP high court, who was transferred to Madras high court, will now return to AP HC. The Centre has notified his transfer too.
