An enchanting jugalbandi

It was a display of virtuosic skill by classical musicians at

Confluence

, a concert held in

University of Hyderabad

on Monday. The two-and-a-half hour performance saw tabla players

Ustad Shabbir Nisar

, Pawan Kumar and

Uday Kumar Nari

play alongside sitar maestro

Ustad Irfan Ahmed Khan

and

Pandit Dhanvant Shindkhede

on the harmonium taking turns to enthrall the audience in a jugalbandi.
Ustad Irfan Ahmed Khan along with Pawan Kumar and Uday Kumar Nari started off the proceedings on raags Desh and Pilu. While it began on a slow pace, the tempo began to pick up. And the songs ultimately culminated in a flurry of beats and melodic rhythms drawing a loud applause from the 50-odd people in the audience.

Next it was time for the tabla to shine, and on came maestro Ustad Shabbir Nisar who along with Pawan, Uday and Pandit Dhanvant Shindkhede on the harmonium, took the audience on a magical journey of instrumental music. The three tabla players took turns to play solo, and ended each section playing the same intricate beats in tandem flawlessly. Ustad Shabbir Nisar took some time out to explain to the audience how he plays some of his most complex beats in odd time signatures, giving the event a finishing touch of some education with a lot of entertainment.
