Secunderabad: Good news to the residents of Malkajgiri, Alwal and Kapra municipal circles. The Army has cleared the proposal for an alternative road to divert traffic now passing through the
Army Ordnance Corps
(AOC) Centre in Secunderabad. Major-General Sharab Pachory , General Officer Commanding (GOC), Telangana and Andhra Pradesh sub-area, has cleared the alternative road from Safilguda railway gate to Entrenchment road towards Allahabad Gate. The new road will run for 2.91km.
The proposal was placed by the
Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) after the Army announced the closure of the arterial Gough Road. The Army closes the road between 10.00 pm and 7.30 am. It is however kept open during the day . But the road will be closed for movement of civilians once the alternative road is laid. Earlier this month the Army set the new deadline of May 30, 2017.
Ajoint survey to identify the Defence land abutting the AOC and the EME centres was completed recently by GHMC, local military authority (
LMA
), and
Defence Estates Office
authorities. A detailed report on the extent of defence land to be acquired and the cost of the project was submitted to Telangana government and
Union ministry of Defence
(MoD). Two alternative roads Safilguda Railway Gate to the Entrenchment Road and Safilguda railway gate to RK Puram RoB were identified. About 34 acres of Defence land will be required for these two roads.
The Board of Officers (BoO) comprising LMA, Defence Estate Office, Telangana government, Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) and GHMC met several times on these proposed alternative roads. In a recent meeting, the BoO cleared the proposal for alternative road from Safilguda railway station to Entrenchment road.
“The GOC has given the green signal for the new road. It will pass through Safilguda railway gate, Uttamnagar, Gowathamnagar and Dyanandnagar. This is a major step towards the closure of the AOC roads,“ said a senior Defence official.
This road will require 23.94 acres of Defence land abutting the AOC. The market value of the land is about `115 crore. The BoO`s decision will be forwarded to MoD for approval. The civic body will call for tenders once the MoD hands over the land.
