Tessy Thomas on Thursday said the the
Defense Research Development Organisation

DRDO) was working on developing technologies that advanced nations would not make available to India.
In reply to a question at the GES-2017 here on Thursday during an interaction with TOI, the '

Thomas is known as, said technologies had to be developed for self-reliance. Tessy Thomas is involved with different variants of the Agni missile but chose not to speak about what the next missile's capabilities would be.
"Being a defence scientist is not a 9 to 5 pm job. Carrying out research could mean late hours. Work-life balance may be difficult," Tessy Thomas said. However, Tessy suggested that women scientists or professionals who have to take a gap from work due to family life should be provided more training and updated with the latest technology so that they can progress in their career.
"My mother is my inspiring model," Tessy Thomas said explaining how her parents had raised her as a child. Tessy is one of the five daughters of her parents who also have a son who were all treated equally and provided good education. Her mother's words to her were: "Show your potential." She did, joining DRDO as a missile scientist.
For her engineering course in Alleppey, Kerala, Tessy had to travel five hours to reach college. "My parents were naturally concerned about my safety," she said. After having joined DRDO, working with A P J
Abdul Kalam was encouraging and challenging.
"He is one we can call a mentor, as everyone knows," she said about the former President of India, who headed DRDO earlier.
