HYDERABAD: The Forum for Good Governance (FGG) has urged chief minister A Revanth Reddy to initiate a comprehensive review of food adulteration cases in Telangana and ensure effective prosecution under the Food Safety and Standards (FSS) Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.FGG president M Padmanabha Reddy said that while raids and FIRs are being registered, prosecution in many cases is weak, leading to acquittals or negligible penalties. "Food adulteration poses a serious health threat. Despite stringent legal provisions, we found that prosecuting agencies are failing to follow through in courts," he said. Citing examples, FGG highlighted several cases where charges were dismissed as "mistake of fact," or ended in acquittals and fines as low as 100.
