HYDERABAD: The city is set to face a chillier winter this year if the current drop in night temperature is any indication. Monday recorded this season''s lowest night temperature at 12.1 degrees Celsius — four degrees below normal for this time of the year. Usually the minimum temperature touches 16 degrees Celsius around this time.
"Winds blowing from the north and north-east have caused the dip in temperature.
This is likely to continue for a few more days this season," met director C V V Bhadram said.
The actual chill of winter will be felt in December and continue up to mid-January. Going by the present trend, temperatures are likely to drop further in December, Bhadram said. But the days continue to be warm. Though one needs a jacket or a sweater at night, light clothes are adequate during daytime. The sun is as scorching as it was in earlier months, but a chill sets in after dusk.
"The maximum temperature has not increased. It continues to hover around 30 degrees Celsius which is more or less normal for this time of the year," Bhadram said.
However, cold evenings are reason enough for Hyderabadis to bring out their woolens. This means good business for the cardigan shops that have come up all over the city. "Business this year has not been good as it was last year, but we are managing,'''' said Chimi Dolma from Orissa, a descendent of Tibetan refugees who comes here to sell cardigans for three to four months every winter at Lakdika-Pul. The slow business is mainly because of the increase in the number of such traders who come to the city from the north-eastern states.
