50 ‘students’ snared in US govt fake varsity operation fly back, land in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: At least 50 students who had joined the US government-run fake University of

, have returned home over the past two days. While most of them are from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh (Vijayawada, Kadapa, Warangal), some are from neighbouring Karnataka, said US based organisations assisting these students.

“About 25 to 30 students landed at the

Rajiv Gandhi International Airport

(RGIA) late on Sunday night, while another batch of about 25 reached the city on Monday. These are students that we know of. There could be some more who have returned without informing us,” said Phani Bobba, an Atlanta-based legal consultant in the know of things. He added: “As these students had not been arrested, we advised them to go back to India as soon as possible. We are simultaneously working on expediting the release of those under detention.”

Indian groups have also engaged the services of an attorney to represent the eight recruiters from Telangana and AP who were arrested on charges of visa fraud.
