HYDERABAD: Robbers attacked two Mumbai-based jewel merchants with knives and took away five-kg gold ornaments, worth nearly Rs one crore, at the busy Abids area on Tuesday evening. One of merchants suffered stab injuries.
In a swift move post the incident, Hyderabad police commissioner AK Khan suspended Abids inspector K Shiva Kumar for laxity in duties as it is the second such incident in a month.

According to police, Rakesh Sakaria and Sonu Sakaria, both Mumbai-based merchants, take orders and deliver ornaments to the city's jewellery shops.
On Tuesday at about 12 noon, the duo arrived in the city by Hussainsagar Express and first went to Charminar and delivered ornaments at shop. Later, they went to Bhajrang Lal & Sons Jewellery shop in Abids in an auto. As the second shop owner did not give any order, they came out of the shop and were waiting for an auto.
At about 7.30 pm, as they were waiting on the road near Lepakshi showroom in Gunfoundry, three motorcycle-borne persons slowed down near them. One among them, clad in a red shirt and blue jeans, stabbed Rakesh on the right arm, snatched the bag and fled towards Abids. Rakesh was shifted to Osmania General Hospital for treatment.
Police immediately launched vehicle-checking and are analysing CCTV camera footage to identify the culprits.
