The arrested were identified as the mastermind V Manikandan (37) from Madanapet, P Yadaiah (38) from Choutuppal, Sk Syed (33) from Kompally and M Upendra Chary (38) from Bhongir. Another accused, A Laxminarayana of Dhoolpet, was arrested by Meerpet police in December last year.
Meerpet police had stopped a bike at Maruti Nagar during vehicle check on the night of December 12. It was being driven by Manikandan with Laxminarayana as pillion rider. Manikandan initially tried to introduce himself as a taskforce cop and even showed an air pistol, but the cops noticed a pouch with tools usually used by burglars. The accused then used pepper spray on them and fled from the spot. However, the cops managed to nab Laxminarayana.
During interrogation, Laxminarayana confessed he was part of a burglary gang and said that they have committed 27 burglaries in Uppal, Thurkapally, Hayathnagar, Abdullapurmet, Meerpet, Valigonda, Vanasthalipuram, Saroornagar, LB Nagar and Balapur in a span of three years. Based on details provided by him, the cops arrested the others at Nandi Hills Colony.
“The accused had mortgaged some stolen items at Choutuppal and kept some at Manikandan’s house,” Rachakonda commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat said.
