HYDERABAD: A gallantry medal was announced posthumously to honour the martyrdom of Telangana Counter Intelligence police constable B Susheel along with two others - assistant commandant Munna Yadav and CRPF deputy commandant Shanti Bhushan Tirkey of Jharkhand - on the occasion of Independence Day.
Thirty four police personnel from Telangana received medals in various categories, including the majority (64%) gallantry medals. The ministry of home affairs awarded the President's police medal (PPM) for distinguished service to two senior police officers - additional director general of police Vijay Kumar and Sangareddy superintendent of police M Ramana Kumar.
MHA awarded police medal for gallantry (PMG) to 22 policemen from Telangana and 18 cops from Andhra Pradesh. Among the gallantry award winners, Jammu and Kashmir police personnel topped the list with 55 officers.
Among the cops who were given PMG apart from Susheel from Telangana were: Counter Intelligence cell SP R Bhaskaran, head constables, K Ashok, K Adinarayana, R Sunil Kumar, H Sukumar, K Sandeep Kumar, M Karthik, V Madhu, Ch Sampath, M Kalyan Kumar, G Sridhar, Ch Raveendra Babu, Rathod Ramesh, T Mahender Rao and B Shiva Kumar, inspectors - K Shiva Kumar and K Purushotham Reddy, sub-inspector Bandari Kumar and reserve SIs, T Mahesh and Shaik Nagulmeera.
MHA's medal for excellence in investigation was awarded to five officers, while a similar number of officers received medals for meritorious service.
