HYDERABAD: Three members of a family, including a five-year-old boy, from Telangana's Ranga Reddy district were killed in a road accident in Osceola County, Florida, in the US on Sunday.

The crash occurred when a pickup truck, which was driving on the wrong side of the road, collided head-on with the SUV the victims were travelling in.

The deceased have been identified as 34-year-old Pragathi Reddy, her 56-year-old mother-in-law Suneetha, and five-year-old son Arvin. Pragathi's husband Rohit Reddy, 34, who was driving the SUV, and their nine-month-old son escaped with injuries. Pragathi was the second daughter of former MPTC member Mohan Reddy and former sarpanch Pavitra Devi, associated with the BRS. The family hails from Tekulapalli village in Shadnagar constituency.

The accident occurred at 2.50 pm between Kenansville Road and Yates Ranch Road, and under the impact of the collision, the SUV overturned after it veered off the road.

Pragathi and Suneetha, who were occupants in the Toyota, were pronounced dead at the scene, while Arvin was declared dead at a hospital. Florida highway patrol troopers said the pickup truck was travelling the wrong way and into the direct path of the SUV.

Pragathi went to the US in 2012 and completed her MS. The couple married in Dec 2016. Rohit belongs to Bakricheprial village in Siddipet district, and the family had been residing in the US for the past 13 years.

Mohan Reddy and Pavitra Devi are leaving for the US, where the last rites will be performed, it is learnt.
