HYDERABAD: Three engineering students were killed and eight others injured when an SUV in which they were travelling rammed a stationary lorry at Ananthasagar village in Siddipet's Chinnakoduru mandal on Tuesday.
Chinnakoduru police said K Vipin Chandra, 19, N Nagaraju, 22, and P Greeshma, 22, died on the spot. The students were on their way back to Siddipet after writing an examination in their college.
Police said the SUV was speeding at the time of the crash.
"Lorry driver Mohammed Abid Ali parked his vehicle in a negligent manner near a petrol bunk. One of the students who was at the wheel crashed the SUV into the lorry from behind," a police official said.
During a preliminary investigation, police found that the lorry driver parked the vehicle to check air pressure in the tyres. "The SUV hit the lorry at a very high speed.
Abid Ali was standing at some distance when the accident took place," police said. Among the injured were T Deva Chandra, 19, who drove the SUV. A case was registered against Abid Ali.
The eight injured students have been shifted to a hospital.
