HYDERABAD: Special Operations Team (SOT) sleuths of Cyberabad busted a gold smuggling racket and arrested three persons, including a jeweller, on Wednesday from Shamshabad. Police seized 700 grams of gold worth 40 lakh from their possession.

Acting on specific information, Rajendranagar zone SOT sleuths apprehended Syed Moiz Pasha, 37, a travel agent from Quadri Chaman in Falaknuma, Sameer Khan, 31, from Vattepally and Mohammed Arshad, 41, jeweller from Rein Bazar.

According to SOT inspector K Venkat Reddy, Pasha is the kingpin, who has been indulging in gold smuggling activity since few months. Sameer Khan came from Dubai with gold through RGI Airport on Tuesday and cops caught him with gold.

"Pasha sends people like Sameer Khan to Dubai on a visiting visa by booking their flight tickets and pays them 10,000 as commission to transport gold from Dubai to Hyderabad. Pasha's associates in Dubai hand over gold to the people sent by him," the inspector said.

Pasha supplies gold to Arshad and together they make over 2 lakh profit per kilo. In the last few months, Pasha received nine such consignments of gold from Dubai, police said. tnn
