25-year-old German woman raped by cab driver on way to Hyderabad airport

A 25-year-old German woman was allegedly raped by a cab driver near Mamidipally, Hyderabad, while on her way to the airport. After dropping off other passengers, the driver took her to an isolated location and assaulted her. The police registered a rape case and launched a manhunt to capture the suspect.

HYDERABAD: A 25-year-old German woman, visiting a friend in Hyderabad, was allegedly raped by a cab driver at Mamidipally, Pahadishareef, while on her way to the airport on Monday night, police said.According to police, the woman had been touring the city earlier in the day with her friend and a few others in the car. After dropping off the other passengers, the driver proceeded to drive her to the airport. However, near Mamidipally, he stopped the vehicle at an isolated location, where he allegedly raped the woman and fled the scene. The woman managed to contact the police and immediately lodged a complaint at the Pahadishareef police station. A rape case was registered under Section 64 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and a manhunt was launched to capture the suspect. While there were rumours that the woman had been gang-raped, police dismissed these claims, confirming that it was a single assault by the driver. The woman was sent for a medical examination, and a team of women police officers is accompanying her. Special teams have been deployed to apprehend the suspect.
The woman had arrived in Hyderabad about a week ago to visit a friend, with whom she had studied in Germany a couple of years ago.(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme Court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
