23-year-old student ends life in university hostel
Hyderabad: A 23-year-old student of a university in Mahbubnagar ended his life in the hostel on Tuesday morning. Following a complaint lodged by his father, police registered a case and shifted the body for a post-mortem examination.
The deceased was identified as T Karthik, a final-year student of the integrated MSc Chemistry programme. A native of Shadnagar, Karthik had been at home during the summer vacation and returned to the university campus on the outskirts of Mahbubnagar town on Monday night to submit his project report.
According to the Mahbubnagar Rural police, Karthik was scheduled to submit the report on Tuesday. “As he did not come out of his room in the morning, other hostellers knocked on the door around 9.30 am. When there was no response for a long time, they broke open the latch and found him dead,” Mahbubnagar Rural sub-inspector Vijay Kumar said.
Police and university authorities were alerted immediately, and Karthik was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
“There was no suicide note. Karthik’s father, T Krishnaiah, a private employee, is also unaware of any possible reason behind the incident. We have learnt that Karthik had some health issues, but the exact circumstances leading to the extreme step are yet to be ascertained,” the SI said.
After the post-mortem examination, the body was handed over to the family on Tuesday. Based on a complaint filed by Krishnaiah, police registered a case under Section 194 (suspicious death) of BNSS.
