HYDERABAD: The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) will be heavily involved in the campaign for the parliamentary elections in Telangana. The BJP’s parent organisation, RSS, is taking charge of overseeing outreach efforts directly.
Sources reveal that the involvement of Sangh workers is significantly larger this time compared to previous elections. The focus is primarily on Secunderabad and Karimnagar constituencies this year.
A structure similar to BJP has been established in RSS to manage responsibilities on a regional and cluster level. Sources say the integration between RSS and BJP has deepened after BJP leaders, without their party scarves, visited homes of people for the ‘akshat’ (sacred rice) distribution campaign before the inauguration of the Ram temple in Ayodhya in Jan.
Currently, RSS members are undergoing a training programme, after which a three-day door-to-door outreach campaign is planned. Volunteers will request people to exercise their voting rights and emphasise the importance of voting in a democracy. Meanwhile, the BJP is conducting similar door-to-door outreach activities.
Another aspect includes distributing pamphlets focusing on nationalistic spirit and the country’s current direction, said a source. Though RSS volunteers won’t directly seek votes for BJP, they will stress on the importance of a nationalist outlook, implying a preference for the BJP, sources said.
Additionally, RSS-affiliated groups and organisations working on nationalist themes are coordinating outreach efforts with influencers. On Sunday, Telangana BJP chief Kishan Reddy engaged in an interaction programme with Vikasit Bharat ambassadors in the state. He stated that past Congress govts lacked a development roadmap, but Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set a target to make India a developed country by 2047.
