165 teams to be set up for Ganesh immersion

HYDERABAD: GHMC will press into action 165 Ganesh Action Teams (GAT) to ensure a smooth procession during the immersion days.

One GAT team will be present for every three-four km stretch along various routes in the city.

The immersion process will begin on September 4. “A total of 9,710 workers will be pressed into action to look after sanitation on the roads. Out of them, 295 are sanitation supervisors and 688 are sanitary field assistants. Apart from them, 1,000 entomology workers at lakes will also be deployed,“ said N Ravi Kiran, additional commissioner of the GHMC's sanitation department. A total Rs 1.05 crore has been earmarked for vehicles that will be deployed during the procession.

According to GHMC officials, pruning of trees along the the procession route (

Necklace Road

and Tank Bund) has been completed. Staffers have been deployed to take up other activities including patch up work, filling potholes, marking lanes and clearing out stagnant on all immersion routes. Over 27 cranes have also been identified to facilitate the immersion process. Of them 18 will be placed at

Tank Bund

and nine at

NTR Marg

.

Further, 135 teams have also been set up to look after the street lights in the lane. “The 135 teams consisting of 436 members will take care of the temporary lighting installed in the area, apart from the regular maintenance of lights,“ said a GHMC official.

The civic body has installed 33,827 temporary lights at a cost of Rs 99.35 lakh, for the occasion.
