HYDERABAD: Legal metrology sleuths raided 16 jewellery stores in Secunderabad and registered 25 cases pertaining to various violations on Friday.
Based on the complaints received from the public about various malpractices by the jewelry merchants at Secunderabad, the sleuths carried out surprise checks in General Bazar. In the raids at 16 shops, officials noticed several violations, including faulty electronic weighing machines, selling of gold ornaments without deducting stone weight, giving short weighment of gold, not using 1 mg accuracy electronic weighing machine and not mentioning purity of gold in the purchase bills.
"After the surprise checks, we registered 25 cases against Manepally Jewellery, Trichy Jewellery, Sri Om Prakash & Sons Jewellers, K Chandukant Jewellers, Sri Karke Balaraju Gems & Jewellers, Sri Mahalaxmi jewellers, Banwarilal Sri Ram Jewellery Mart, Ananya Gems & Jewellers, Parmeshwar Rao & Vallepu Laxmaiah Jewellers, Sri Sai Shakthi Jewellers, Chand Brothers Jewellers, Shakelli Venkat Ramaiah Brothers, Sri Laxmi Jewellers & Pearls, Sri Raghavendra Jewellery Mart, Kalakantla Jewellers and Chitranjali Gems & Jewellery," controller of legal metrology S Gopal Reddy said.
The sleuths have requested that consumers inform them about malpractices at jewellery shops by calling the helpline 1860-425-3333 or by mailing at clm@ap.nic.in or by sending an SMS to 9490165619.
