Eleven TRS MLAs were suspended from the Assembly for the day for ignoring the pleas of the chair.
HYDERABAD: Eleven TRS MLAs were suspended from the Assembly for the day on Friday for ignoring the pleas of the chair and stalling the proceedings over the Polavaram project issue. Half-an-hour after the house assembled, TRS floor leader G Vijaya Rama Rao, M Satyanarayana Reddy, T Harish Rao, Padma Devender Reddy and others demanded that work on the Polavaram project be stopped immediately and moved an adjournment motion which was turned down by the chair along with other motions moved by the TDP, BJP and Left parties.
Following this, the TRS MLAs trooped to the well of the House and sat before the speaker's podium and continued with their slogans. Repeated requests from speaker K Suresh Reddy to the agitating members to restrain themselves turned futile and the House was adjourned for 10 minutes at 9.10 am.
But the TRS members continued their tirade after the House reassembled and did not allow Question Hour to be taken up. The bedlam continued for about an hour resulting in the minister for legislature affairs K Rosaiah moving a motion for suspension of the TRS MLAs for two days under rule 300, section 2. Responding to this, the TDP, CPM and other members said the issue of submergence of tribal villages and other aspects raised by the TRS need to be addressed by the government. "But, House proceedings should not be stalled," they added.
The chair then announced the suspension of 11 TRS MLAs for the day. When the suspended members did not leave the House and continued with their slogan-shouting, marshals were directed to evict them from the House. Those suspended include G Vijaya Rama Rao, A Chandrasekhar, M Satyanarayana Reddy, K Nagesh, S Ramalinga Reddy, Padma Devender Reddy, T Padma Rao, N Narasimha Reddy, T Harish Rao, A Govind Nayak and K Eshwar. Later, speaking to reporters, Vijaya Rama Rao said they tried to bring the issue in the form of an adjournment motion following the advice given by the chair on Thursday to explore the option available for them if they wanted a broader discussion on the issue. However, the same was denied, he added.
