10-year-old girl sexually abused, father arrested

HYDERABAD: A 35-year-old man was taken into custody by police on charges of sexually abusing his 10-year-old daughter in Alwal.
The incident came to light when members of the local Child Welfare Committee (CWC) along with the help of an NGO, had rescued the survivor and alerted the Alwal police department.

The CWC members said it was during a sensitization programme carried out by the NGO at the school on ways to protect oneself from sexual abuse and how to identify victims of sexual abuse, the plight of the student was noticed.During the interaction with the students, a Class 5 student, realized that s he was a victim of sexual abuse and the abuser happened to be her own father. The stunned NGO workers then alerted the CWC and it was found out that the accused has been abusing the girl since October 2017.
“A case was registered at Alwal Police Station and the girl has been moved to safety at the Bharosa center in Kondapur,’’ said a CWC member. The abuse survivor has undergone medical examination. Officials said they were verifying if the accused had committed similar offences against any other girl in the locality. It is alleged that the accused, a carpenter by profession, used to hurt his wife in a drunken state regularly-.Alwal Police, however, denied receiving a complaint although they admitted that a case has been registered. “We are yet to get the complaint,” said Alwal inspector V Srikanth Goud.
The CWC members are planning to send a proposal to the district administration to send the survivor, her sister and mother to a government-run home due to the alleged atrocities of her father.
