Dharwad: A Congress party functionary was allegedly murdered at his residence in Hashmi Nagar, Malapur, Dharwad, on Friday night. The deceased is Youth Congress secretary Firoz Pathan, 27.
Police said a gang of 3-4 persons barged into the house, chased him and allegedly stabbed Pathan with a knife multiple times and left him lying in a pool of blood. According to sources, Pathan's family members who came to intervene were also attacked, and the assailants fled. He had been preparing for his wedding scheduled for April 26.
The exact reason for the murder is not known yet. The sequence of events leading to the murder has been caught on CCTV. Police commissioner N Shashikumar visited and inspected the spot, as also suburban and city police.
Supporters of Pathan brought the body to protest in front of the suburban police station. However, police stopped the protesters at KC Park, and persuaded them to take the body home.
Shashikumar said a comprehensive investigation will be conducted in the case. Pathan was at home when three to four people came and attacked him between 9.30pm and 10pm. There are witnesses and his family members have also seen the assailants. We have got a clue about them. We will soon arrest the culprits, the top cop added.
Union minister Pralhad Joshi told reporters that law and order is a serious problem as it has collapsed in the state.
