Youth assaulted in Raichur for allegedly harassing a woman

Raichur: A young man was allegedly assaulted in Raichur city after being accused of harassing a woman at a private hospital, police said on Wednesday.The incident, which reportedly took place on Tuesday, came to light a day later after a video of the assault went viral, drawing widespread attention. Police identified the youth as Meheboob.According to police, Meheboob was allegedly taken from his residence by members of the woman's family to a house located in IDS&T Layout. He was allegedly confined inside a room and physically assaulted.The incident is said to have stemmed from allegations that the youth harassed the woman at a private hospital. Angered by the alleged behaviour, the woman's family confronted him and brought him to their residence.In the video, the woman's elder sister is seen confronting the youth, claiming that she had been closely observing his behaviour at the hospital. She alleges that he made a sexist remark about her in front of her younger sister, which prompted the family's reaction.The footage shows the youth being forced to kneel and slapped repeatedly. He is also seen pleading for forgiveness, but the assault continued despite his appeals. Police have registered a case at Sadar Bazar police station, and further investigation is underway.
