Hubballi: Amidst tight security, citizens of Hubballi celebrated Holi with high spirits on Sunday. People right from kids to elders joined in splashing colours on each other.
Despite the scorching heat, children started celebrations in the morning by sprinkling colours on their friends.
Youths came out of their homes and danced to the tunes popular Hindi and Kannada songs on Holi.
Songs like Rang Barse..', Aaj na chodenge..' Banna nanna olavina banna..', Holi holi rangu holi..', Bannada okuli bandiralu...' rent the air.
Families of opposition leader in the assembly Jagadish Shettar, MP Pralhad Joshi, MLA Prasad Abbayya, MLCs Pradep Shatter, Basavaraj Horatti and other public representatives, joined in the celebrations.
People of Unkal, Lingaraj Nagar and surrounding areas celebrated by beating drums. The procession of statues of Kama-Rati was taken out at Belamar Oni, Karjagi Oni, Kamaripete, Akkipete, Mastan Sofa, Ganeshpete, Keshwapur, Maratha Galli, Vidya Nagar, Hosur, Gokul road, Station road and other areas. Business establishments, cinema halls were closed till late afternoon.
A person was injured while breaking the colour pot in Eshwar Nagar and 2 others were injured while burning the idol of Kamanna on Gokul Road.
Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissioner had arranged tight security for the festival. Police Commissioner Panduranga Rane told TOI that 2,000 policemen were deployed to maintain law and order. He thanked one and all for celebrating the festival of colours in a peaceful manner. The commissioner also said that they had deployed 14 platoons of Karnataka State Reserve Police, 15 platoons of City Armed Police and more than 250 Home Guards for maintaining law and order.
