Dharwad: The members of Thinkers’ Forum protested in front of the HDMC office here on Tuesday demanding that roads to the district civil hospital be widened.
The hospital located in fort area witnesses heavy rush round the clock as people not only from Dharwad, but also rural areas come here for medical treatment. However, the three roads leading to the hospital are narrow and in pathetic condition.
Very often the narrow road from Regal Circle to KNK High School is congested as shopkeepers along the road encroach upon the road by keeping materials, while the road from HDMC Circle gets congested due to haphazard parking of commercial and private vehicles.
This has affected free and speedy movement of ambulances and other vehicles carrying patients and medical staff.
Forum president PH Neeralkeri said repeated appeals to officials and elected representatives have not yielded any result and hence the problem continues. It is high time officials widen the roads and repair them for smooth flow of traffic on these stretches, he urged.
Later, the forum members submitted a memorandum to HDMC commissioner B Gopal Krishna seeking action.
