HUBBALLI: Adoption of modernity in agriculture and industry will accelerate development in the country, said vice-chancellor of Belagavi Channamma University, SB Hosamani.
Speaking after inaugurating the foundation day celebrations of the Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCC&I) here on Friday, Hosamani said, "Agriculture and industry contribute hugely to the country's economic growth and KCC&I has been giving valuable suggestions to improve both fields.
The body is not only encouraging entrepreneurship, it is also extending its service to agriculture.'
KCC&I has been organising many seminars to provide information on taxes to entrepreneurs and also working with the government, to fulfil the needs of industry.
"Although the body shoulders a lot of responsibilities, it should organise seminars and debates on goods and service tax (GST)," he added.
Shrishail Metagud of Bailhongal in Belagavi district, C S Mehebbob Basha of Hubballi, Manjunath Hegde of Honnavar, Malleshappa Arakeri of Ranebennur, and Pradeep Sanghavi of Hubballi were conferred the Vanijay Ratna award by KCC&I on the occasion.
While Chiranth Patil was the chief guest at the function, KCC&I president Ramesh Patil presided over the ceremony.
Former MLA Chandrakanth Bellad, former MLC Mohan Limbikai, KCC&I former president Shankranna Munavalli, office bearers SJ Kematur, Siddeshwar Kammar, Shivashankarappa Mugabast, Vishwanath Ginimava were also in attendance at the function.
