Tributes paid to scholar Venugopal

Dharwad: Renowned scholar and writer Professor Chakravarti V Venugopal died in Bengaluru on Monday. He was 84 and is survived by a son and two daughters. Professor CV Venugopal had retired as the professor of English at Karnatak University, Dharwad. Born in Kolar in 1939, he had his primary and secondary education at Kolar and higher education at Central College, Bengaluru and Mysuru University. He had earned a PhD in English from Karnatak University for his thesis ‘Indian Short Story in English: A critical survey,’ in 1974. Before joining the PG department of English at KUD, he had served as a lecturer at Kadasiddheshwar College in Hubballi. His students and admirers paid rich tributes to Prof. Venugopal at a virtual meeting organised by Dharwad Katte on Wednesday. Chairman of the KU PG department of English Professor NH Kallur, Shamala Ratnakar, Kanchan Gaonkar, Shrishail Golagond, Basavaraj Donur and others spoke. Former director general of police DV Guruprasad, Krishna Joshi, Shrikant Malapur, Vidya Jamkhandi and others, who were Prof Venugopal’s students, recalled his scholarly qualities and love and affection for students.
