Belagavi: BJP Belagavi Uttar Yuva Morcha organised a Tiranga bike rally as part of the house-to-house Tiranga Abhiyan on Sunday. Former MLA and state BJP vice-president Anil Benake inaugurated the Tiranga bike rally from Ganesha Temple at Chennama Circle. Inaugurating the event Prasad Rampure, principal said: “Every year we bring new books and e-resources to our library. Students should develop the habit of reading books. In the coming days, workshops will be organised on the good use of the library, and students and staff should participate in large numbers. The headboard for the team installation for 2024-25 was also held on Sunday. The installation ceremony occurred in the presence of area chairman Veepul Bhutada, and past chairman of BCRT Raj Ghatage. Noted entrepreneur Srinivas Raibagi was elected chairman while NS Sagar was elected vice-chairman. Nikhil Jain (secretary) and Gaurav Desai (treasurer) were the other office bearers elected at a meeting that was held prior to installation. Chairman said that they are excited to take on this new journey and make a positive impact in Belagavi and Goa region.Techno-management fest concludesBelagavi: Ashwamedha 2K24, a one-day techno-management conference was organised by the MBA and MCA departments of the KLE Engineering College Chikodi on Saturday. More than 500 students from Kolhapur, Miraj, Sangli, Belagavi, Bagalkot and Vijayapura districts participated in this conference. In the Chitrakarma-Photography competition, Atharva Yarande won the first position and Suyasha Korade the second position. In the team category of the Nrityam dance competition, the Ruchita team won first place, Kaushalya team won second place. Shashikumar Kattimani won first place and Vaishnavi Mule won second place in the solo category. Chetana Shirke stood first and Aishwarya Hunasikatti stood second in Chatura Vijaya-Business Quiz. Harshvardhan Patil got first place and Gurunath Sambhaji got second place in Srujan Sangh-Poster Presentation Competition respectively. In the tech philosophy-coding competition, Aditya Kamate won the first position and Shubham Pandharapatte the second position. Hrushikesh Koli won the first position and Pragati Belavi the second position in the Unvesion-Technical Treasure Hunt competition.DSS to hold dharna from todayBelagavi: Siddarai Metri, a nominated member of Belagavi City Corporation and convener of Karnataka Dalit Sangharsh Samiti (DSS) said that DSS has decided to hold an indefinite sit-in near the railway station from Wednesday afternoon demanding the long pending issue of installation of the statues of Babasaheb Ambedkar and Shivaji Maharaj at the premises of Belagavi Railway Station. Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Metri said, that on the occasion of the inauguration of the renewed railway station, it was promised to install the statues. But no action has been taken. DSS leaders Santosh Kamble, Shankar Kamble, and office bearers were present.Five arrested in connection with advocate’s murderVijayapura: Police have arrested five persons in connection with the advocate Ravi Melinamani murder case, on Tuesday. SP Rishikesh Sonavane told reporters that Melinamani was murdered on Thursday last week when he was returning home after court hours on his scooty at Bagalkot Cross. “Miscreants followed him in an Innova car without a number plate. They hit Melinamani’s scooty from the rear end. He got stuck under the car and they dragged him for about 2 kms. His body was thrown at Managuli Road graveyard. A complaint was registered at traffic police station by Prakash Melinakeri, brother of the deceased,” he added. He further said, “During investigation, we came to know that it was a murder. The prime accused Tulasiram Pandit Harijan asserted that Melinakeri had threatened him over a fight a few months ago. Following this, Harijan planned to murder Melinakeri in association with Alex Gollar, Prakash Gollar, Shanmukh Naduvinakeri, Saddam, Murugesh Ullagaddi, Amin Shaikh. We have arrested Alex, Naduvinakeri, Prakash and Ullagaddi. We are looking for others”.Investors cheated of ₹3.5 croreHubballi: Cyber police have registered a case against two partners of RR Easy Trading Company and Acumen Capital Trading Limited Company on charges of cheating public by collecting the amount of abour Rs 3.5 crore. Police said that investors Sahadevappa and others have filed a complaint saying partners Santosh and Anand had assured them of providing dividend of 4-5% for the invested money in April 2022. “They even paid the dividend to investors between April 2022 and January 2024. Later, they have neither refunded the principal nor the interest. Now, the accused persons are absconding and we are looking for them,” they stated.Police arrest 8 for ganja peddlingHubballi: Sub-Urban police have arrested eight persons, who were transporting, selling and consuming ganja behind KIMS in Bailappanavar Nagar here and seized 1,630 grams of ganja, a bike, seven mobile phones and Rs 2,300 cash on Tuesday. Vaibhav Parab from Shantinagar, Rakesh Nayak from Gopanakoppa, Ganapathi Shankar from Athani, Maruti Sabarad from Dharwad, Chandrappa Kammar from Nuggikeri, Ganesh Yadav from Kumareshwar Nagar, Ramesh Madar from Devagiri and Nitin Medar from Kalageri were arrested. A case was registered against Vaibhav and Rakesh on Aug 7 for smuggling ganja. Under the guidance of ACP Shivprakash Nayak, inspector MS Hugar conducted an inquiry and arrested.Forum against internal reservationHubballi: Karnataka state Korava, Koracha, Bhovi waddar, Banjara Meesalathi Horata Samiti has decided to file an appeal with the Supreme Court against the scheduled caste (SC) internal reservation and fight across the country. Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, Samiti leader Pandurang Pammar said that they have opposed the Supreme Court's decision to divide 101 castes in the scheduled castes and make internal reservation in them. “It has been decided to hold a letter campaign and protest. In 2023, the government cancelled the unscientific and unconstitutional report of the AJ Sadashiva Commission,” he added. He welcomed CM Siddaramaiah's statement of taking appropriate action in consultation with SC leaders and legal experts on other issues including the controversial creamy layer aspect of the SC judgment.
