This building houses both college and school
It's been four years since the setting up of Govt PU College in Navanagar on the outskirts of the city. But it is yet to have a permanent building. The education department has also not recruited non-teaching staff, because of which lecturers, at times, are doubling as housekeeping staff and clerks.
In fact, the building is housing Govt High School too.

It starts functioning after the college hours, that is between 8am and 12 noon. The work on the building comprising three classrooms had begun a year ago. But it has not been completed yet. It is said the building should have had at least four classrooms as Arts and Commerce college has a strength of 105 students.
The location of the college is also making the students trek a long distance on the main road. The lack of drinking water and proper toilet facilities is adding to the students' problems. The absence of security personnel at the building is encouraging illegal activities there. It's been regular for the lecturers to clear the premises of liquor bottles in the morning.
College Betterment Committee member N Varur said but for the plastering work, the construction work is over, and that it will be ready to hold PU classes in two months.
The government has solved the problem related to teaching faculty in government colleges. About 80% construction work on the PU college building is over, and the rest will be completed in two months. Government had sanctioned three classrooms, and more will come up in future. The government has sanctioned Rs 50,000 for furniture. Steps are being taken for the betterment of government PU colleges in the district and appointment of non-teaching staff.
