HUBLI: Life is nothing short of a hell for the residents of Maruti Nagar near Heggeri here, which also houses a burial ground. Though the area is located off the Gokul Road which leads to the airport, the area is suffering from lack of basic amenities.
There is no drainage facility in the area and filthy water flows on to the road and overflowing garbage bins, with roads that are not tarred.

Above all, the sewage water mixing with the drinking water is a major problem people here have to bear with.
"We are not able to walk on the roads because of the filth which flows on the road making the way slippery. The overflowing garbage bins emanates an unbearable stink and attracts stray pigs and dogs, posing a threat to the children of the area," said a resident.
The residents requested the authorities to construct speed-breakers on the Heggeri road that passes on the fringes of the area following an accident that claimed the life of a little girl, but in vain. Lack of streetlights in the area makes their life more difficult during the night.
"Our area is sandwiched between a burial ground and open space. While the burial ground has become a place for all types of illegal activities, the open space is used by the residents for toilet purposes. The civic authorities have done nothing to put an end to these things. We get water once a week and that too only for three hours," said Naseer Ainaf, who is a resident of the area for the last 30 years.
Corporator Ragavendra Ramdurg said: "We started constructing the drainage system 15 days ago and steps have been taken to clean the garbage bins in the colony."
HDMC commissioner K V Trilokchandra said since the locality falls in category C they are collecting garbage from the area once in three days. He said the corporation has started fogging and spraying the public places to contain mosquitoes.
