Dharwad: Rajashekar Vadather, a teacher at Vidyaranya School in Dharwad, was suspended on charges of taking 80 grams of gold ornaments from a student on the pretext of giving him a question paper before the SSLC exam. RR Sadalagi, block education officer, Dharwad Rural, told TOI that it was alleged the teacher threatened the student after he informed his parents about giving him gold ornaments. Frightened by this, the student tried to commit suicide by consuming poison at home. He was admitted to the district hospital and treated. DDPI SS Keladimath recently issued a notice to the KE Board and asked it to submit a report. Since it is an aided school, the institution should take disciplinary action. In this regard, a meeting of the KE Board members was held on Feb 27. As decided in the meeting, teacher Rajashekar Vadather was suspended from service, a departmental inquiry was ordered, and an FIR was lodged.
