HUBLI: A student of Forestry College, Sirsi, affiliated to University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad, topped the Indian Forest Service examination conducted by the
Union Public Service Commission in July last year.
Shaba Alam Ansari (27), hailing from Jharkhand, completed his BSc (forestry) in Forestry College, Sirsi, and MSc in wood science and technology from Forest and Research Institute, Dehradun in 2008.
With hard work and perseverance, he got through the toughest IFS exam by securing first rank in the entire country. Mohammed Shamim, father of Shaba Alam, works as foreman in Cooking Coal Limited in Jharkhand.
He scored 75.5% in PUC science and got admission in BSc (forestry) after passing an entrance test conducted by ICAR in Sirsi college. He bagged a gold medal in BSc for scoring the highest marks in 2006-07.
To support his father, Mohammed Shamim, a foreman in Cooking Coal Limited, Jharkhand, he joined a Denmark-based timber trading company as sales representative in Jharkhand. On advice of his parents, he came back to Sirsi to study for the IFS exam in 2010 April.
In Siri, he studied hard and spent most of the hours in the college library, before he appeared for the IFS examination in Dharwad in July, 2010. His hard work achieved him the highest marks, according the the IFS examination final results which were announced three days ago.
